"Usyk vs Fury" Negotiations Come to an End, Possible Future Fights for Usyk
by FARUK IMAMOVIC | VIEW 337
Negotiations for a potential match between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury have officially ended, with Usyk and his team withdrawing from further talks. This development opens the door for Usyk to explore other potential opponents in the heavyweight division.
Daniel Dubois Emerges as Frontrunner for Usyk's Next Fight
As the WBA's designated mandatory challenger, Briton Daniel Dubois is the favorite to be Usyk's next opponent. Dubois holds the WBA (Regular) title, which gives him a shot at the belt, though a knee injury could prevent him from fighting.
If Dubois is unable to fight, the IBF's first-ranked challenger Filip HrgoviÄ could step up. Interim WBO champion Joe Joyce is also a possibility, but Usyk has the option of a more lucrative fight.
Deontay Wilder Expresses Interest in Fighting Usyk
Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has also expressed interest in a match against Usyk.
With three fights against Tyson Fury already under his belt, a new match against the "Gypsy King" is not currently a likely option for Wilder. On the other hand, a fight against Usyk, who Wilder has not yet faced, is seen as a potentially exciting prospect for both fighters.
Wilder's manager Shelly Finkel confirmed the interest, saying "If the Usyk fight is available, Deontay will take it in a heartbeat," as per Sky Sports.
Usyk's Manager Responds to Fury Negotiations
Usyk's manager Egis Klimas spoke to Sky Sports about the end of the negotiations with Fury.
Klimas stated, "The Usyk side pulled out of further negotiations as the Fury side never had enough [and wanted] to pull everything and all rights to their side." He went on to add, "They most likely forgot that Usyk is holding the majority of belts in the heavyweight division and Tyson just has one."
"Wilder vs Usyk" Match Not a Likely Possibility
Although Wilder has expressed interest in fighting Usyk, it is not a likely possibility at this time.
The WBA will require Daniel Dubois to fight as the mandatory challenger, and if Dubois is unable to fight, Filip HrgoviÄ is next in line. Meanwhile, Joe Joyce will defend his interim WBO title against Zhilei Zhang in the middle of the fourth month.
Wilder has also been in negotiations for a match against Andy Ruiz, but the two have yet to come to an agreement.
