Canelo refuses to believe that Gervonta Davis is the face of boxing

Gervonta Davis’s recent victory against Ryan Garcia wasn’t convincing enough for Canelo to believe that he is the face of boxing. Canelo shared his thoughts on the match and explained why he disagreed to accept the statement.

It was one of the biggest boxing matches of the decade, and it was a massively successful event. 29-0(27 Knockouts) is a dream for many; Gervonta Davis is living the dream; it will be very interesting to see who he ends up fighting next.

Tank could make a return in 2023; if not, he should definitely fight a well-known opponent in 2024.

Canelo’s thoughts on Gervonta Davis

Recently in an interview with Ring Tv, Canelo Alvarez spoke about this in greater depth and justified his claim.

“I’m not retired yet, my friend”. Alvarez said, as quoted by ringtv.com. “They can say whatever they want, but it’s not that easy. One fight does not put you in that position. You need to do a lot of things”.

He further added. “There are a lot of good fighters coming up, one of them is Gervonta for sure. “But he needs to do more, not just one fight. I like Gervonta Davis a lot, but he needs to do more to be the face of boxing.

“One fight with Garcia, and I respect Ryan Garcia, isn’t going to do it”. Ryan Garcia has also achieved substantial success in the sport of boxing, the bitter taste of defeat should shape him as a better boxer, and who knows, at some point in the future, he could have a rematch with Gervonta Davis.

Saul Canelo Alvarez is set to appear in the boxing ring in less than 48 hours against John Ryder. This is perhaps the biggest match of John Ryder’s career and also the toughest test. A must-win for Canelo if he really looks forward to running it back with Dmitry Bivol. (Photo credit: Ed Mulholland)
