It has always been Ryan Garcia's dream to fight against his idol Manny Pacquiao, and a few years back, this match was expected to happen. Garcia announced it publicly by sharing a post that he later removed. The possibility of a fight got cancelled due to unclear reasons; however, Oscar De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy Promotions, wants to rekindle Ryan Garcia's dream.
Last month the boxing world witnessed the highly anticipated match between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis, where Garcia, for the first time in his career, ended up on the losing page. Garcia wants to fight Rolly Romero or Teofimo Lopez next; maybe after securing a few victories, he could demand a rematch with Gervonta Davis.
Oscar De La Hoya on Ryan Garcia vs Manny Pacquio
Oscar De La Hoya seems to be very enthusiastic about making the iconic match-up translate into reality. He wants to schedule a fight between Ryan Garcia and Manny Pacquiao at catch weight; he recently spoke about this with Fight Hub Tv.
"It's a very real option for both guys because imagine Ryan Garcia – Manny Pacquiao fight at a catchweight, can be the biggest fight for both guys," De La Hoya said, as quoted by dailymail.co.uk. "Manny's a small guy to start off with.
All his weight is in his calves. He's got big calves, strong calves, but yeah, I can see that fight happening at 142, 143, maybe". De La Hoya shares his thought on Rolly Romero: "Rolly's a fun fighter to watch. Him and Ryan would be a very entertaining fight, but the biggest fight out there for Ryan would be a Manny Pacquiao".
Ryan Garcia's return is aimed for August this year, and he has been presented with potential opponents to pick from, and it will be very interesting to see who he decides to fight next. More details on his next fight should be disclosed soon.
