Top US trade officials to visit China next week for trade talk

On Tuesday, the 19th of March 2019, a Trump Administration Official said that the US Treasury’s Mnuchin and Trade Representative Lighthizer would be visiting China next week for next round of trade talk with the Chinese Vice Premier Liu He.

Earlier this week, Trump said at a White House Press Conference following a talk with Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, “Talks with China are going very well”. Upon conclusion of last leg of trade talk between United States and China on Washington, Trump had delayed tariff over $200 billion worth of Chinese goods, citing modest progress over the latest round of talk, in particular on Intellectual Property transfer and independence of US firms conducting businesses in China.

In terms of anonymity, a Trump administration official had also confirmed on Tuesday that the next leg of talks would resume next week and meanwhile, top officials of two countries had been contacting through phone calls.

Never the less, the spokesman failed to mention further details on the duration of the trade talks. Besides, echoing the leads of the anonymous spokesman, a Wall Street Journal report had revealed earlier that after concluding the next round of trade talks in Beijing next week, Chinese Premier Liu He was expected to visit Washington in the first week of April, as the two sides were looking forward to sealing a trade deal by the end of next month.
