Europe must not remain hostage to Brexit, says French President Macron

On Friday, the 22nd of March 2019, French President Emanuel Macron told that the Europe must not remain a hostage to an ongoing Brexit chaos, as UK PM Theresa May had been struggling to convince a deeply divided UK House of Commons to back her Brexit deal after the latest EU summit granted Britain more time.

Macron had been quoted saying to the reporters on Friday (March 22nd) that the European project should not be remained as a prisoner to Brexit. Besides, the French President had also mentioned that the bloc needed a wake-up call on China.

Seeking better access to Chinese market, French President Emanuel Macron said, “China plays our divisions. The period of European naiveté is over”. Ahead of an EU-China summit due to be held on April 11th, European Union would more likely to seek a better access of their products into Chinese market.

Another set of critical trade talk between EU and China would likely to take place among EU Commission director Jean-Claude Juncker, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emanuel Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Besides, the UK PM May might have secured a 90-day extension of the Brexit, although it remained yet to be confirmed how the British Prime Minister had been planning to forge ahead of her amended Brexit plan after two landslide defeats.
