Fiat Chrysler recalls 3,20,000 Dart Cars on defective transmission issue

On Friday, the 19th of April 2019, the Italian-American automaker, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said that they were recalling over 3,20,000 Dodge Dart Compact Cars in North America over potential defect in transmission that could roll the cars away.

Besides, the carmaker had also added that the recalled vehicles could have contained a specific set of defective parts which could detach the shift cables from its transmission, raising potential risks while the cars are on parking.

According to its Friday’s (April 19th) statement, the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said that the recall would be covering automatic transmission Dart cars between 2013 to 2016 models and the defect could cause difficulties while shifting vehicles into parking.

Apart from that, the world’s eighth largest automaker headquartered in London, had been quoted saying that the company had not been aware of any crash or injuries related to the defect, however, it had received thousands of reports of repairs related to the parking of the vehicles.

Explaining the cause of defect, the company said that a cable bushing might have eroded following prolonged exposure to humidity and high ambient heat, and the car owners should shut the vehicle off and engage the parking brake to circumvent accidents during parking.

The recall would be covering 2,98,000 vehicles from United States, 20,117 in Canada and 3,400 in Mexico. In point of fact, Fiat Chrysler had stalled production of their automatic transmission Dart vehicles since 2016 for some unknown reasons.
