Facebook suspends pre-installed apps on Huawei phones, Twitter to follow?

On Friday, the 7th of June 2019, there had been a latest development on trade conflict between China’s Huawei and United States, while US-based social networking giant, Facebook Inc. had said that it would no longer allow pre-installation of Facebook apps on Huawei phones, indicating a massive blow to Chinese tech giant, as it had been vying to stay operational despite a crippling US ban that barred it from purchasing materials from US suppliers.

Following its Friday’s (June 7th) statement, Facebook officials had been quoted saying that the customers who already had a Huawei phone would still be able to use Facebook and receive updates, but Facebook would no longer allow Huawei to pre-install Facebook app alongside WhatsApp and Instagram on Huawei phones.

Although, aside from Facebook app, US-based Twitter and Booking.com apps also come pre-installed on Huawei phones, Twitter and Booking.com had declined to comment on Friday (June 7th) on whether they had been aiming similar measures to new Huawei smartphones.

Nonetheless, the latest Facebook move had further dampened the sales outlook of world’s number 2 smartphone vendor, Huawei Technologies, behind South Korea’s Samsung, which had already slashed its growth outlook 21 percent for 2019 amid an escalated Sino-US trade spat.
