Beyond Meat Inc. grounds plans for Japan push: Mitsui

On Saturday, the 10th of August 2019, a Japan-based trading house, Mitsui & Co. Ltd., which had purchased a small stake in vegan burger-maker Beyond Meat back in 2016, said that, the LA-based producer of plant-based meat, Beyond Meat Inc., had called off its plan to enter into Japan’s market as the vegan-burger maker was seeking to center its focus more on to the US market, where it recently had raised a havoc-scale funding following its blockbuster IPO to ramp up an expansion and beaten out an emerging plant-based meat rival.

On top of that, the Japanese-based investor, Mitsui & Co. Ltd. had also been quoted saying in its Saturday’s (August 10th) statement that it had been working out on a plan to partner-up with the American plant-based meat producer aimed at selling alternative meats in Japan, but the Beyond Meat had shelved the project.

As a response to Beyond Meat Inc.’s latest call off of its expansion into Japanese market, a Mitsui spokeswoman declined to reveal the details of negotiation, but added that future expansion had not been offboarded yet, while Beyond Meat’s chief growth officer, Chuck Muth said on Saturday (August 10th), “We look forward to bringing our revolutionary products to more countries across Asia, including Japan. ”
