Bill Gates to step down from Microsoft Board to focus on philanthropy

Late on Friday, the 13th of March 2020, American business magnate, William Henry Gates III or simply the Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft Corp. who made the company world’s one of the most valuable tech firms, had stepped down from the management board of Microsoft Corp.

to focus more on charity works related to climate change, child education for the under-privileged alongside global health. In point of fact, the former world’s richest man having assets worth of $103.8 billion, American billionaire Bill Gates alongside his wife, Melinda, have long been running one of the world’s largest charity body, the Gates Foundation based on Seattle, Washington, which has $46.8 billion of assets in its vault and more than 1,500 employees as of December 31st, 2019, while the Gates Foundation is much-known for its activities in global health related programs aimed at duelling disease and poverty.

In tandem, about 12 years earlier, back in the 2008, Gates departed his role of full-time executive in Microsoft Corp. and remained as the Chair of Microsoft’s management board till 2014, however, since 2014 Gates remained as a Microsoft Board member following appointment of Satya Nadella as Microsoft’s CEO who shifted the company’s focus to cloud computing services Microsoft Azure from selling Windows OS alongside software.

Meanwhile, as apart from Microsoft’s board of management, Bill Gates had also stepped down from Warren Buffet’s investment fund Berkshire Hathaway Inc.’s management, where he had been serving as a board member since 2004, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in an official statement late on Friday (March 15th), “It’s been a tremendous honour and privilege to have worked with and learned from Bill over the years. ”
