Mercedes Benz exec. Christopher Schroeder told that they might not be focusing on being the best self-driving car manufacturer, instead, they would be targeting to be among the first two players in autonomous car tech industry, a German paper Welt am Sonntag revealed on Sunday, the 6th of January, 2019.
While tech companies as well as carmakers like Google, Volkswagen, Uber and General Motors have been thriving to access in to the Robo-taxi services, the Waymo division of Google has completed the most test miles with their prototype self-driving vehicles.
A bigger rival of both Google and Mercedes, the Volkswagen acknowledged that the Google’s technology in autonomous car technology had been the best so far.
Despite quick progress of Google’s Waymo, the Mercedes Benz, owner of German car and truck maker Daimler, remained audacious in their approach to be one of the top two competitors in the industry.
Meanwhile, the Uber’s test drive had again received court approval, after a devastating accident by Uber’s self-driving car, killed a woman earlier last year. Mercedes Benz executive, Schroeder said the newspaper, “We need to be among the top two competitors who are in a position to scale up the technology and bring it into series production.”
