Bison Dele, a once celebrated member of the Chicago Bulls championship team, disappeared without a trace in 2002, leaving behind a mystery that remains unsolved to this day. His story, filled with unexpected twists and unanswered questions, continues to capture the public's imagination.
Dele, who formerly played under the name Brian Williams, enjoyed a successful NBA career before retiring at the age of 30 to pursue his dream of sailing around the world. In July 2002, he embarked on this journey with his girlfriend Serena Karlan, brother Miles Dabord (formerly known as Mickey) and ship captain Bertrand Saldo.
However, their journey took a dark turn when the group disappeared shortly after setting sail.
Traces of a battle on board
The following months were filled with disturbing searches. Authorities found Dele's boat, the Hakuna Matata, in Mexico, which showed signs of a struggle but no blood.
Dabord later reappeared, trying to buy gold with a forged check, raising further suspicion. He made a series of inconsistent and ultimately unbelievable confessions, claiming to have witnessed and even participated in the murders of Dele, Karlano and Saldo.
Miles fled to Mexico and told his girlfriend that he had killed Bison's brother, his girlfriend and the captain and that it all started with their argument. He said that Bison hit his girlfriend by mistake, who hit her head on the railing and died on the spot, and since the captain wanted to report it, Bison hit him in the head with a wrench several times and killed him, and Miles would be next , who took a gun and shot Bison several times in the body and head.
He threw their bodies into the water and with the help of exercise weights they stayed at the bottom, so Miles' girlfriend reported all this to the police.
Many questions remain unanswered
The FBI immediately dismissed the entire story, as their forensic investigations told a completely different story and it all made no sense.
There were no bullets, no weapons, no aforementioned wrench, and where did the weights from the gym on the sailboat come from? Miles soon disappeared again, only for Mexican police to find him stranded on the shore, unconscious, and immediately taken to the hospital.
When he was found, he was wearing only socks, and due to an overdose of insulin, he ended up in a coma. Was it a tragic accident, a calculated murder, or something else entirely? The absence of definitive answers continues to haunt the families and friends of the victims, leaving them with a deep sense of loss and unanswered questions.
The story of Bison Dele is one of the biggest mysteries that have befallen famous athletes. Even 21 years later, this case has not been solved.
