In a shocking incident at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University in Prague on December 21, a 24-year-old history student, identified as David K., launched a deadly attack that claimed the lives of 14 students and lecturers, while injuring 25 others, before turning the gun on himself.

The tragedy took an even darker turn with revelations from a farewell letter found during the investigation. The letter, discovered in the village of Hostounj, reveals David K.' s gruesome confession about an earlier crime.

A week before the campus shooting, he confessed to killing a young father and his two-month-old baby in a forest on the outskirts of Prague. The motivation behind this brutal act remains unclear, as police continue to investigate, investigating a series of events and questioning people connected to the case.

Ballistic tests of the weapons used in both incidents, including the AR-15 rifle used during the attack on the university, link David K. to the unexplained murder of a 32-year-old Czech and his child in Klanovice. Disturbingly, he legally acquired a sizeable arsenal, including three rifles and a handgun, raising questions about the Czech Republic's gun licensing process, which lacks psychological assessments and relies solely on a GP certificate.

18 roses

During the memorial service for the victims, 18 roses decorated the altar in the Cathedral of St. Vitus in Hradčana. Fourteen roses represented the dead students and lecturers, one for David K.' s deceased father, and two for the victims from Klanovice.

Strikingly, another rose was placed for the killer himself, symbolizing a plea for understanding and the belief that good will ultimately triumph over evil. While police have faced criticism for their handling of the incident, questions remain about the motive behind David K's actions and the systemic failures that allowed him to amass a deadly arsenal.

The search for individuals who threaten to imitate or support the attacker is intensifying, and more than 60 cases are under investigation. Authorities are warning against sharing content related to the killer to prevent the spread of panic and false information.

The nation and the people who were on the streets mourn the loss of innocent lives and demand a closer examination of the factors that contributed to such horrific events.
