Britain’s newly elected PM Boris Johnson, who was sworn to take the office for the second term in a bid to smoothen up the United Kingdom’s divorce from European Union following December 12th’s landslide victory for the Tories, would meet EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen in London on Wednesday (January 8th) in London ahead of a critical round of post-Brexit trade talks which would likely to take place after Britain’s divorce from the bloc on January 31st as planned earlier, a UK Government statement had revealed on Saturday, the 4th of January 2020.

In point of fact, following Saturday’s (January 4th) announcement of the UK Government of PM Johnson who had secured a controlling majority of 80 seats in the UK House of Commons on December 12th’s snap election, several analysts were quoted saying that the two leaders, PM Johnson and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, would likely to discuss on whether they could reach a new trade deal in the transitional period following a January 31st Brexit.

Meanwhile, signalling the bloc would unlikely to leave an inch for Britain in trade negotiations following a Brexit under present terms, the EU Commission President was quoted saying following Saturday’s (January 4th) statement, “Time is extremely short for the mass of issues that have to be negotiated. ”
