Red Bull's Horner says Masi was ousted due to lobbying from Mercedes

Red Bull F1 Team principal Horner says on Monday that he has reasons to believe that the former FIA race director Masi had been ousted because of immense pressure from the Mercedes F1 Team, while Horner also has accused his arch-rival of “bullying”.

In the matter of the fact, latest remarks from Red Bull F1 Team principal Horner came forth as Michael Masi had been replaced as the FIA race director last month, largely due to his failure to complete the last season’s title decider in Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

If truth is to be spoken, followed by an accident, the race was settled by a one-lap sprint and Masi allowed to overtake Hamilton who had been leading the line, a number of cars in such a way that had placed Red Bull’s Verstappen just behind the Mercedes.

With the help of an awkwardly behaving late-safety car alongside fresh tires, Red Bull’s Verstappen surpassed Mercedes and own the 2021 driver’s Championship title. However, the ousting of Masi had put a dark spot on Verstappen’s trophy with Mercedes winning the constructor’s title.

Nonetheless, despite widespread scepticism, Horner stood behind Michael Masi, whose ousting is thought to be a collateral damage of a neck-to-neck battle between Mercedes and Red Bull.

Amid such garrulous circumstance, Horner said in an interview with BBC on Monday, “Was it right to fire him based on pressure that was placed on him from a rival team? That for me was wrong…That's tantamount to bullying.

It's passively aggressive. Yes, Michael did make mistakes and it was frustrating, but you have to look at the role that he was in and the tools that he had at his disposal. You can't just place the blame on Michael. It's unfair to do that.
