Daniel Ricciardo, the 32-year-old Italian-Australian McLaren F1 driver, has hailed the team’s performance in Australian GP, as McLaren finished the event with double points. Followed by the race, the home favourite who had finished one place behind teammate Norris at sixth in a much-refurbished Albert Park on Sunday, branded the performance as a “mega result” adding he would “rehydrate with a couple of beers” before leaving Melbourne.

In the matter of the fact, this has been the first time since last year’s St Petersburg GP when both McLaren drivers had managed to finish in top seven. More importantly, a relatively maverick performance from McLaren on Sunday with Red Bull’s Verstappen again failed to finish the race due to a glitch on his car, followed a couple of disappointing showings in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia GP, where the team had racked up just six points.

McLaren’s Norris finished at fifth with 10 points and Ricciardo netted 8, rounding off the event at sixth.

Meanwhile, following a double-point finish in the Australian GP, Ricciardo said, “After Bahrain I was still very positive and I knew we could make a turnaround.

Didn't think it would happen already. For that reason, I'll definitely take it. As a whole, it was certainly better. Team result was mega compared to the last few. Besides, addressing to Mercedes’ persistent fiasco in terms of speed, Ricciardo added, “The beginning I felt strong on the medium [and] I thought we had something for Mercedes early on, but then they were able to remind us that they are still a bit quicker”.
