Ahead of Miami Grand Prix which is scheduled to take place on May 8 and is expected to beat Austin GP record in terms of audience attendance, both F1 race directors Eduardo Freitas alongside Niels Wittich have been tested positive for COVID-19, stoking questions on who will be referring next week’s Miami GP. In point of fact, the media topline which was first reported by a British media outlet, came against the backdrop of a havoc-scale hype regarding the F1 event with Formula One racing gaining immense popularity across the United States following a Netflix original “Race to Survive”. Nonetheless, while being asked over the issue, a spokesman for the governing FIA was quoted saying that medical information of their personnel could not be disclosed “unless it is relevant to the running of an event”.

Although, the FIA had declined to disclose the issue, a number of sources of renowned press agencies like of Reuters alongside media outlets such as Sky Sports and Daily Telegraph, had reaffirmed the news, however, the sources wished to remain anonymous contemplating the sensitivity of the subject-matter.
Sky Sports has quoted one of its sources as saying that it has reasons to believe both F1 race directors tested positive for the pandemic pathogen after last weekend’s Emilia Romagna GP. At this standpoint, travelling to the US requires a negative test regardless of vaccination status which could not be taken no more than a day before departing.
Practice events for Miami GP is set to begin on next Friday, the 6th of May.
