India’s Jehan Daruvala completes successful F1 test with McLaren

Jehan Daruvala, only the third racer ever from India who could take part in the highest format of racing, has successfully completed an F1 test with McLaren. Latest test driver from the Indian racer came forth as Daruvala might just secure a podium finish over this year’s Formula 2.

Daruvala currently stands at third with 73 points in F2 title race, 10 points behind No 2 Pourchaire and 59 points behind the Drugovich who has been leading the tally of driver’s championship title with 132 points. According to McLaren, the 23-year-old made a successful test session this week, while a potential future F1 racer drove the team’s 2021’s MCL35M.

Although, McLaren had yet to make any official remark over Daruvala’s performance, sources had confirmed that the test had proven Daruvala’s ability to perform at Formula One level.

Daruvala successfully completes his first ever F1 test

Ahead of next weekend’s UK GP, Daruvala completed 130 laps combined over two days later this week at the British GP venue Silverstone.

Followed by the test run, Daruvala said, “I really enjoyed my first time driving a Formula One car. I felt immediately at home and while it was physically more demanding than anything I have driven in the past, I didn’t have any issues with my fitness.

As a result, we were able to work through the run plan well and complete everything we had mapped out. We did a mixture of high-fuel long runs and as well as shorter, low-fuel runs on different tyre compounds. That gave me a good understanding of how teams operate on an F1 weekend.

Overall, I’m very pleased with how the two days went, how I coped and the mileage we were able complete. I felt I was able to push closer to the limit with every lap and I can’t wait to drive one of these cars again”.

Red Bull-backed Daruvala is currently racing with Italian team Prema in F2.
