Williams F1 team said in a statement on Wednesday that Alex Albon has signed off a new contract extension deal which in effect will keep him in Williams until 2024. Albon, the 26-year-old British F1 driver, had previously raced for Red Bull, and Scuderia Toro Rosso in Formula One.
Although, Albon has been met with a tough time this season with only 3 points under his name, he has been frequently contemplated as one of the most promising F1 drivers. Nonetheless, only Latifi stayed behind Albon this season, as the British F1 racer has found himself among rookies at eighteenth.
Albon extends Williams contract until 2024
Latest move from Williams came forth as Mercedes’ George Russel, who appears to be in a decent shape this season, had left the team last year. However, after losing his place in Red Bull, Albon had to look for a new team last year.
Followed by the announcement from Williams Albon tweeted, “I understand that, with my agreement, Williams Racing have put out a press release this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is right and I have signed a contract with Williams for 2023.
I will be driving for Williams next year”. Meanwhile, expressing an out and out optimism over the contract expansion, Williams F1 team boss Capito said in an interview with a press agency, “Alex is a tremendous driver and valued member of Williams Racing, so we're thrilled to be able to confirm we will be working with him on a long-term basis.
Alex brings a great blend of skill and insightful learnings that will help bring the team greater success in the future. He's a fierce competitor, has proved a popular and loyal team member and we are delighted that he will provide a stable base for us to continue to develop in this new F1 car era”.
