Mick Schumacher, the 23-year-old German F1 driver and the son of Michael Schumacher who won seven F1 world championship titles including two doubles, had joined Mercedes as a reserve driver. In the point of fact, latest move from Mick Schumacher comes over the heels of a termination of a four-year long contract between the German and Ferrari.

Besides, the 23-year-old had struggled severely over his two-year long stay in Haas. The rookie, in tandem, had tallied only 12 points this season and ended the season at sixteenth. Apart from that, Schumacher had often found himself among other rookies, however, the German who broke his car twice this season had finished above Red Bull breeder AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda alongside Sauber-run Alpha Romeo’s G Zhou.

Schumacher to join Mercedes as reserve

Although, questions emerged on whether Schumacher could hold a position in F1 arena after his ousting from Haas, former Formula 1 racer Stuck was quoted saying in a recent interview that the German should have a better team than Haas which have been starving financially after having been forced to part ways with the Mazepin family.

Nonetheless, Sebastian Vettel also had expressed optimism that Schumacher could join Aston Martin as his replacement. Nevertheless, followed by two-year long struggle in Haas, Schumacher had finally found a top-notch team which has potential to win the 2023 championship title.

According to a statement released by Mercedes on Thursday, Schumacher’s new role will involve a wide array of side-bench job ranging from conducting simulation to attending races as a potential replacement for the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton or George Russell.

Apart from that, Schumacher will remain available for racing on Mercedes’ partner teams Aston Martin and Williams.
