As Sebastian Vettel, the 35-year-old former F1 driver, had rounded off a 16-year-long remarkable journey in Formula 1, Vettel’s father Norbert said in an interview over the weekend with a press agency, “I was so proud of him”.

If truth is to be spoken, Vettel’s unexpected retirement announcement had sent shockwaves across the F1 arena just before the mid-season break, while the four-times world champion had cited that he wanted to pass more time with his family alongside other charitable activities.

Vettel won four straight F1 championship titles between 2010 and 2013.

Vettel’s father reflects on his son’s career

In point of fact, Vettel began his career at the age of eight, when he had had his first podium finish in a karting race in Kerpen, the home town of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Vettel started off his F1 journey with BMW Sauber, however, as he had impressed many F1 officials over next few years, he was being called to become a full-time driver for the Red Bull F1 Junion team a few years later. After three years, Sebastian’s first title came at 2010s, after which the German didn’t need to look back and he won straight four championship titles with Red Bull F1 team between 2010 and 2013.

Reflecting on Vettel’s run with the Red Bull, father of the 35-year-old said, “This was a nice time – I was just so proud of him,” says Norbert. “Every father, every mother, you do everything for the children.

So to watch him go from karting to world champion was incredible”. Nonetheless, later Vettel had moved into Ferrari, however, had botched to secure titles during his six-year long stay, however, he had secured two runner-ups.

After that, for a better future, he moved on to Aston Martin, however, his optimism turned to an elusion and he began to speak about environmental issues back in the 2020s. While being asked about Vettel’s future plans and whether he would miss the F1 arena, Norbert said, “I think yes.

This is my feeling. Seb’s feeling, I do not know. When you’ve been in this hamster wheel for so many years, racing since he was eight, it’s hard to know how he will feel now he is off the wheel. I don’t know what he will do next year.

I don’t know what I will do either. I say to Seb: thank you for all this nice time. Have a good time”.
