Ex-race director Michael Masi made a big mistake in Abu Dhabi when Lewis Hamilton lost the title. The final winner was Max Verstappen. Masi will be at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend, which is also the first time he is at a race after Abu Dhabi.

The reporters were interested in Masi's opinion regarding the criticism he constantly receives from Abu Dhabi. The Australian doesn't seem particularly concerned about that. However, he felt a small amount of nervousness upon arrival.

“I was a little nervous on Wednesday when I first came in,” he told the Daily Mail, as quoted by crash.net “But you have seen with your own eyes the kind reception”. An Australian respects everyone's opinion.

However, it is too late for anything now. “They have their perspective and are entitled to their view. I respect any view, and it's not for me to comment on what they do or don't think. And if I am approached to have a discussion I am open to it, and always have been”.

Michael Masi on his job

The race director job was exciting but quite tiring. Masi missed his home and his friends. He spent too much time traveling. However, it seems that he is more satisfied now that he has time and friends close to him.

“I loved the job but you don't realise the impact travelling so much has on you. When we last met in 2021, I literally lived on a plane. The joys of being able to cook a meal at home, being able to catch up with relatives are now open to me.

My only living grandparent, Agusta, is 89 and is 10 minutes down the road. She can't speak a word of English and she loves the fact I go to see her and have a coffee with her. Those little things. You don't realise what they mean. Weddings, birthdays."
