George Russell believes Lewis Hamilton's results are a 'coincidence'

Following the upgrades in Monaco, George Russell could not outperform Lewis Hamilton in either qualifying or in the race. In an interview with the media, Russell denied that the upgrade to Monaco was the main reason why Hamilton improved his form.

This young driver believes that everything is a coincidence. “I think it’s pure coincidence. I think it’s like you say very fine margins." George Russell believes that the difference between him and Hamilton is minor.

All of this can be confirmed by looking at the results of last year as well as the results of the current year. There is still a way to go for Mercedes to be at the level they would like to be at and it will take a lot of things to happen in order for them to become as good as they once were.

"I think out of all the teams on the grid statistically we’re the closest of everybody in terms of teammates. Lewis is obviously a very strong driver. It’s funny I think at the start of last year Lewis was on a higher level than what I was yet I was well ahead in the championship and now this year we’re at a very close level and the championship - I am 40 odd points behind him.

"- he said.

George Russell is optimistic

Despite being out of shape, Russell has always been optimistic. It is Russell's hope that the future will hold better stories for him in the future. “Ultimately that’s the only thing that matters.

We’re going into this weekend and seeing what we can do but certainly the last couple of races haven’t been the best run of form for me. As I said history now, let’s see what the upcoming races bring”.

Red Bull is leading the way for now and it is hard to see that anyone can dethrone them. Source: crash.net
