Christian Horner on the reasons why Lewis Hamilton doesn't sign a new contract

There is still no word on a new contract between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. This story does not seem to be ending anytime soon. Lewis Hamilton appears to not be interested in continuing his story in Mercedes, and some obstacle obviously stands in his way.

Christian Horner, Red Bull team principal, reacted to the fact that Hamilton still hasn't signed a new contract. For several months, Horner explained, it has been emphasized that the contract would be signed, but it still hasn't happened.

It’s strange because we keep being told, and I keep seeing in the media, that it’s just a matter of days,” he said. “That’s been going on since February! So one can only assume that there is something fundamental that they can’t agree on." Red Bull has a different practice than Mercedes.

When you say for several months in the media that things will soon be over, but nothing happens, then it is obvious that rumors will appear. “We don’t tend to conduct negotiations through the media. It is usually a couple of conversations around the table, and the job is done.

So I don’t understand why. There has to be something preventing it happening”.

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton as teammates

Many F1 fans are hoping to see Verstappen and Hamilton in a joint team. Of course, it would be Red Bull considering the current competitiveness.

Horner emphasized that there is little chance of such things happening, considering the rivalry between the two, as well as the fact that both are the best in their jobs. “That’s like saying ‘could you have two centre-forwards playing for your favourite football team who are both hugely competitive and talented’,” he said.

“It would be unrealistic to put both in the same team”. F1 knows how to bring strange stories, so we do not rule out the option of seeing Max and Lewis together in the team. Although, hand on heart, for now it is an unrealistic option.
