Elon Musk, replying on Twitter to a message from a user who had recalled the drop in births in Italy highlighted today by Istat data, said: "Italy is disappearing." Already last year, always replying to the same user, the billionaire had explained in another tweet how the collapse of the population is the greatest threat to civilization.
He was then answered by the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, who explained that by continuing like this we will have a childless society, which will collapse, but it is good that a visible person like Elon Musk talks about it.
Elon Musk makes a bad prediction towards Italy
Istat data that outline the demographic picture in Italy and highlight the negative record of births in 2022: for the first time, it fell below 400,000. The population in Italy, according to data as of January 1, 2023, includes 50 million and 851 thousand residents.
For the first time since the unity of the country, births have fallen below the limit of 400,000, reaching 393,000. In 2022, there were 713,000 deaths in Italy, with a mortality rate of 12.1‰. Compared to the previous year, the number of deaths is 12,000 higher, but 27,000 lower than in 2020, the year of maximum mortality due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Musk has announced that Twitter will make public the algorithms it uses to recommend tweets to each user, a transparent approach he has long advocated without putting it into practice. Here's the announcement: "Twitter will open source all the code it uses to recommend tweets on March 31st.
People are going to find a lot of stupid things, but we'll fix the problems as soon as we find them." The multibillionaire explained that Twitter's algorithms were complicated and little known, even within the Californian group.
He told: "Being transparent about your code will be very embarrassing at first, but should lead to rapid improvements in the quality of recommendations. We're developing a streamlined approach to highlighting the most interesting tweets."
