Israel has laid out specific terms for the extension of the ongoing truce with Hamas, as detailed by Mark Regev, a senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a CNN interview.

The Hostage Release Condition

Israel's position on extending the humanitarian pause in the conflict is contingent upon the release of Israeli hostages by Hamas.

Mark Regev stated, “Every day, we agreed to an extension for the release of 10 hostages, 10 living hostages." This approach places a clear, daily objective that can be monitored, directly linking the extension of the ceasefire to the actions of Hamas.

If Hamas fails to release 10 Israelis per day, Israel has made it clear that military operations could resume. This stance highlights the critical priority Israel places on the safety and return of its citizens, with Regev noting the presence of at least 140 hostages still inside Gaza.

The humanitarian pause, as explained by Mark Regev, is primarily aimed at securing the release of these hostages. This temporary cessation of hostilities offers a potential window for further negotiation, albeit under specific and stringent conditions.

Regarding broader agreements with Hamas, Regev reiterated Israel’s determination to disrupt Hamas' military capabilities and its governance in Gaza. This reflects Israel's long-term strategic goals in the region and highlights the complex nature of their engagement with Hamas.

Mark Regev emphasized the gravity with which Israel views the safety of its citizens. “We are not going to play games with the lives of our people,” he stated, indicating the Israeli government's firm stance on this issue.

The clear communication of the deal's parameters to Hamas suggests a direct and understood line of negotiation between the parties. “Hamas knows what the parameters of the deal are”. Mark Regev concluded. The developments in this conditional truce are being closely monitored globally, as they hold significant implications for the future direction of the conflict and the stability of the region.
