Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin made some interesting comments that caught everyone's eye. He talked about how important space projects are for Russia, especially about getting a nuclear power unit up and running in space.

At a government meeting, which was covered by TASS, Putin was all about making sure these space missions get the money and attention they deserve. He believes Russia has some unique skills and resources that not only make the country proud but could also be game-changers for exploring space in the future.

Putin really wants to push forward Russia's ability to do cool stuff in space. He mentioned, "We need to finance it on time," focusing on the project for the nuclear power unit. He's keen on making sure Russia keeps getting better at space research and development, especially in the areas where they're already doing well, to tackle future challenges that come their way.

Russia and China Team Up for a Moon Mission

Russia's plans for space don't just stop with pride and progress. Yuri Borisov, the boss of Russia's space agency Roscosmos, spilled the beans on working together with China to put a nuclear reactor on the moon.

They're looking at doing this big project somewhere between 2033 and 2035. It's a pretty big deal for exploring the moon further and maybe even setting up shop there one day. This partnership kicked off with an agreement in 2021 between Roscosmos and the China National Space Administration.

They're all in on creating an International Lunar Research Station. It's clear they're both really interested in making the moon a key spot for future space missions and maybe even a place where people could live and work.

Exciting or Worrisome Space Moves?

But here's where it gets tricky.

Moving forward with nuclear technology in space opens up a can of worms about using space for military stuff, like creating weapons that could mess up satellites around Earth. There's talk that Russia is working on a space weapon that could send out an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), messing up a ton of satellites.

While it's still a work in progress and not yet flying around up there, the idea of it is making people nervous. If it ever gets used, it could really shake things up, affecting security and daily life in ways we might not even fully understand yet.
