Meanwhile, the New York Times reported how Jill Biden urged her husband, US President Joe Biden, to immediately stop the war in Gaza, as told by Joe Biden himself during the Ramadan event which took place on Tuesday at the White House.

"Like the president, the first lady is devastated by the ongoing attack on aid workers and loss of innocent life in Gaza. Both want Israel to do more to protect civilians," said Elizabeth Alexander, communications director of the first lady.

Hamas representative Osama Hamdan in Beirut said that negotiations with Israel were at an impasse, however.

"We confirm that so far there has been no progress in the negotiations and that they are at a standstill despite the high positive flexibility shown to facilitate reaching an agreement," Hamdan said on live television.

A source cited by CNN states that the meeting between Biden and Netanyahu was scheduled after the killing of seven World Central Kitchen workers in an Israeli raid on Gaza.

The American broadcaster reported that in the aftermath of the raid, Biden was very angry and increasingly frustrated and was ready to make Netanyahu aware of this in their conversation, according to a senior administration official.
