Call of Duty: Vanguard is free to play

From today, May 18, until May 24, multiplayer modes for Vanguard will be free to play. 9 modes and over 20 maps on PC and consoles players can play without limit, and if they decide to buy the game later, all progress is transferred.

Another free week for Vanguard is an indicator of failure for this WW2 title. Namely, Vanguard did not satisfy the appetites of the company's leaders with the sale, and some of them blamed the Second World War, which they believe bored the players.

Vanguard did not live up to expectations. Not in terms of sales, much less with players. The financial report for the last quarter of last year showed that Vanguard's sales were worse than the previous Black Ops Cold War, and now Activision has tried to explain what went wrong.

According to available sales data, Vanguard sold worse than Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from 2020. Activision acknowledged in the financial report that the lack of major innovations has resulted in weaker sales, but the main problem is the wrong setting.

Activision's statement

“While Call of Duty remains one of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time, our 2021 premium release didn’t meet our expectations, we believe primarily due to our own execution.

The game’s World War II setting didn’t resonate with some of our community and we didn’t deliver as much innovation in the premium game as we would have liked," admitted Activision in their statement In addition to the lack of innovation, we are of the opinion that the free Warzone is also to blame, whose popularity obviously takes its toll on premium Call of Duty titles.

Activision, and we ourselves, expect that this year's Modern Warfare II, run by Infinity Ward, will meet first and foremost quality, and then sales expectations. So this year Activision will try again with the modern age and Modern Warfare 2.

After great success with the reboot of the subseries, MW2 is practically a safe bet. Treyarch is preparing a new version of the engine, a new Warzone is being prepared at the same time, and the first display is just around the corner.
