GSD, a company based in the Netherlands, recently published data on the annual sales of video games for the year 2022 on the European market (territory of Europe). It is estimated that 159 million video games have been sold for consoles and computers in 2022, which represents a 7.1% decrease over the previous year.
The sales of new games released in the year 2022, on the other hand, increased by 16% compared to 2021. As of the end of the financial year, 82.5 million games had been distributed digitally, and the remaining 76.6 million had been distributed physically.
Despite the fact that Elden Ring is among the most successful games this year, it has not yet become the top seller in Europe. In Europe, FIFA was the best-selling video game, a fact that hasn't surprised anyone for a long time, as the game has topped sales charts for years.
Interestingly, if we combine the sales of FIFA 22 and 23 games in 2022, it would probably be an understatement to claim that the eight other best-selling games combined would not have had such a high sales result. GSD shares several interesting facts along with the previously published list of the best-selling games, as well as the company's list of best-selling games.
Nintendo's Mario Strikers: Battle League Football surpassed Dying Light 2. The game Kirby and the Forgotten Land outsold Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope last year. . In terms of the sales of consoles (the two largest markets - the UK and Germany - are not included in this number), this number has dropped by 25% from the year 2021.
Xbox was the only console manufacturer to sell more units than a year ago, and the best-selling console was the Nintendo Switch, despite the fact that the console saw a 15% decline in sales from two years ago to last year.
