As the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 Approaches, Gamers and Analysts Worldwide Are Eagerly Awaiting New Announcements and Surprises This year, among many speculations, one particularly exciting possibility stands out: will Microsoft unveil its first handheld console?

Rumors and Indications

Rumors of a potential Microsoft handheld console are not new.

For some time, industry insiders have suggested that the company is exploring the possibilities of entering the handheld console market. Considering the success of the Nintendo Switch and the growing interest in cloud gaming, the idea of an Xbox handheld console doesn't seem far-fetched.

Some insiders claim that Microsoft has been working intensively over the past years on developing such a device that could compete with the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck. Mysterious prototypes, internal meetings, and patents that have surfaced publicly support these claims.

One of the most intriguing indicators is a patent for technology that enables hybrid gaming – a combination of local and cloud play – which would be perfect for a handheld device.

Strategy and Potential Advantages

Microsoft has already deeply integrated cloud gaming through its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service, allowing players to play their favorite games on various devices, including phones and tablets.

Adding a handheld console to this ecosystem would significantly expand possibilities for players, providing them with a specialized device featuring optimized controls and long battery life.

A handheld console could also respond to the growing popularity of portable devices among younger populations.

As a company striving to be a leader in innovation, Microsoft could seize the opportunity to establish itself as a serious player in a market long dominated by Nintendo.

What to Expect at Xbox Games Showcase 2024?

Although Microsoft has not given any official hints about a possible handheld device, speculation is rising as the showcase date approaches.

If the rumors are true, we might see at least a "teaser" or an announcement of the development of this device. Microsoft might present a conceptual video or even a prototype console that is still in an early development stage.

Besides the handheld console, other major announcements are expected, including new titles, updates for existing games, and improvements to the Xbox ecosystem. But the idea of a handheld device, allowing players to take their Xbox games wherever they go, is certainly the most exciting.

What Can We Conclude?

While all this information is still speculative, we cannot ignore the fact that Microsoft is continually seeking ways to innovate and expand its offerings. Xbox Games Showcase 2024 could be the perfect opportunity to introduce something entirely new and exciting.

Will it be a handheld console? We'll find out soon. In the meantime, Xbox fans can only dream about the possibilities such a device could bring. Regardless of the outcome, one thing is certain – Xbox Games Showcase 2024 will be an event no gamer will want to miss.

The Biggest Showcase of the Week

This could be the biggest showcase of the week in terms of major game announcements.

This is the first time that Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard are part of one of these events. Microsoft has quite a few games and major announcements lined up for 2024. We are likely to get details and/or release dates for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Starfield, Diablo IV expansions, as well as the next season of Overwatch 2.

We also hope to get a glimpse of Blade by Arkane Lyon. Expect to hear about more titles heading to Game Pass, and possibly additional first-party games making the jump to PlayStation and Switch. For many, the main event will take place after the main presentation, as we will learn more about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

The next installment in the series likely takes place during the Gulf War and is the first Call of Duty title to be available on Game Pass on release day. Following reports of very poor sales of Xbox Series X|S consoles and general stagnation in revenue, excluding the recently acquired Activision Blizzard segment, Microsoft seems poised to announce a lot and try to engage the widest possible audience with its rich portfolio.

A major "Xbox Games Showcase" is scheduled for June 9, featuring the full lineup of Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard for the first time. As last year, immediately following this event, a special segment dedicated to one game will be broadcast – last year it was Starfield, and this year it remains a mystery which game it will be. During this time, Microsoft will also hold its "Xbox FanFest" in Los Angeles.
