Matt Carpenter is the new reinforcement of the New York Yankees. He has signed a one-year contract and there will be high expectations from the infielder. He is happy that everything like this happened and he could not hide his excitement.
We’ll see if he can show his full potential on the Yankees team. “It happened fast and now I’m here and I couldn’t be more excited about it,” Carpenter said after meeting with manager Aaron Boone, as quoted by MLB.
“We just had a quick conversation about it but my response to him is that I’m excited to put a uniform on and be part of the best team in baseball right now,” Carpenter said. “I’m just fired up to be here.
I’m going to hit the ground running”. Boone emphasized that Carpenter has been the player they have wanted for a long time and was on their radar. They achieved their goal and got what they wanted, now it remains to be seen if Carpenter can help the team.
“He’s someone who’s been on our radar the last couple of months,” Boone said. “We’ve been eyeing him for a while as a left-handed bat off the bench. … Just a professional guy from the left side, and we feel he can help us”.
Carpenter debut
Carpenter deserved the attention of such a big club with his games. “He was great to be around this spring and he’s pitched really well. He put himself on our map this spring with his performance and he’s carried that into the season”.
Carpenter has already shown in his debut how good the reinforcement will be, given that he reached base twice and scored a pair of runs in the 7-2 win over the Rays at Tropicana Field. “It was pretty crazy,” said Carpente.
“To get here and be in the lineup right away — I don’t think I landed until 3:20, so it happened fast, but it was a lot of fun. Huge win. It was good to be a part of, pretty cool”.
