After the recent news about Daniel Cormier and Usman trying their hand at the film industry, now comes the news that the biggest MMA star will also try his hand in that field. According to the portal Deadline, Conor McGregor will play his first acting role, and along the way, he will also work with Jake Gyllenhaal, who will be the main star of the film.
It is a remake of the classic Road House. "Road House" is a movie from 1989, and the main role was played by Patrick Swayze. As stated, Gyllenhaal will be the main character of the "remake", and Conor will get one of the supporting roles.
It is interesting that the "remake" of this film has been in preparation for several years, and Ronda Rousey was cast in the role almost seven years ago. As time went on, the filming of the "remake" got stuck somewhere, and Rousey apparently dropped out or lost her role in that movie.
Ronda was supposed to play the female version of the character played by Patrick Swayze in the original film, but perhaps such a big role and responsibility would be too much for Ronda Rousey.
The movie picked up by Amazon Prime Video
The film has now been picked up by Amazon Prime Video, and Conor McGregor's spokesperson, Karen Kessler, spoke to MMA Junkie about Conor's film debut.
“Conor McGregor is very excited to expand his storied career to Hollywood and join with Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of ‘Road House,’ a beloved classic,” McGregor’s spokesperson Karen J.
Kessler said in a statement. “While fighting remains his top focus, this is the beginning of another successful venture in the McGregor empire. He is eager to get started filming”. As for the film itself, Jake Gyllenhaal will play the role of a man who is a former UFC fighter, and then takes a job as a bouncer at a traveling house, but soon discovers that not everything is as ideal as it seems.
The remake will reportedly be filmed in the Dominican Republic. Although the spokeswoman claims otherwise, it is obvious that McGregor's main focus is not MMA at the moment, because Conor is busy with many things. His recovery from the injury has been going on for more than a year now, and there is no sign of a return to the cage.
