Henry Cavill was born in Saint Helier on the island of Jersey. The fourth of five siblings, he is the son of a bank employee and a stockbroker. After elementary school, he attended Stowe School, where he began to cultivate the theater acting business.
He has often stated that he considered military enlistment or university studies in ancient history, especially Egyptology, as an alternative to acting. Cavill was officially engaged to athlete Ellen Whitaker from February 2011 to August 2012. He has been an avid gamer since childhood, so much so that in an interview he said he missed the phone call with which Zack Snyder told him he had it chosen to play the role of Superman because he was too busy playing a session of World of Warcraft.
He also stated that the strategic game series Total War is one of his favorites, especially for the chapters dedicated to the world of Warhammer, so much so that the production house has added a tribute to the actor in a DLC for Total War: Warhammer II by calling a Loremaster of Hoeth of the High Elves Cavill.
