Coming into the just second weekend after release, “Avatar: The Way of Water” had surged past a whopping $1 billion milestone, becoming the fastest 2022 release to reach the milestone. In the matter of the fact, only three films had surpassed the $1bn landmark this year, as “Top Gun: Maverick” has been leading the tally that took 31 days to become a billion-dollar epic, while “Jurassic World Dominion” took over four months to join the league of legends. Nonetheless, in the pre-pandemic era, nine movies had topped the $1 billion milestone across the globe in 2019. The ‘Tom Holland’ Spidey took 12 days after release to hit the $1 billion mark.On top of that, “Avatar: The Way of Water” also had broken off another record, as the film had entered into the club of six movies which had cleared a whacking $1 billion mark over their first two weeks after debut.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” hits $1 billion mark
With James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” hitting $1 billion mark on Wednesday morning, analysts were quoted saying that the film could easily top a $1.001-billion racked up by “Jurassic World Dominon” before end-2022.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” hit the theatre back in mid-December with a lower-than-anticipated $134 million debut in domestic box office, however, the film appeared to have become a soaring eagle in terms of revenues across the globe.
So far, the film had generated a $317.1 million North America alongside a $712.7 million overseas.
