The year ahead will be marked by movie titles that have been talked about since they entered production. Among others, we will watch new works by big directorial names like Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and Christopher Nolan.
KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON
The director-actor duo Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are waiting for us in the title "Killers of the Flower Moon". It is Scorsese's most ambitious film worth 200 million dollars, which was created as an adaptation of the novel of the same name.
In the mid-1920s, oil was discovered in Osage County, Oklahoma, and the Native people were targeted by ranchers after they were legally granted the right to profit. The film brings a piece of modern American history, and it is quite certain that we are expecting another excellent role of Leo DiCaprio.
Every film by Christopher Nolan is eagerly awaited, and the title "Oppenheimer" has been hyped for a long time due to the fact that it stars Cillian Murphy, the star of the "Peaky Blinders" series. The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Gary Oldman, Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Gustaf Skarsgård and Casey Affleck.
The trailer looks promising, and knowing the director, we can be sure that we will again be taken on an emotional rollercoaster. It is a story about the American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is responsible for the development and creation of the atomic bomb.
For all those who want to see the world through rose-tinted glasses, the excellent news is that in the New Year, a movie story about the first barbie made in history will arrive. The plastic beauty we grew up with is played by Margot Robbie, an actress who fulfills the somewhat unrealistic ideal of beauty by which the most famous doll in the world was created.
In the trailer, we see her dressed in the striped bathting suit that the legendary doll wore in her first public appearance back in 1959. Ken is played by blond Hollywood handsome Ryan Gosling, and the narrator Helen Mirren guides us through the story.
A bear on cocaine sounds great, and when we tell you that in real life a brown bear ran amok in a small town in the state of Georgia, you certainly cannot imagine the scale of the spectacle that brings the title "Cocaine Bear".
The film is based on a true event from 1985, when a brown bear swallowed a bag full of cocaine (dropped from a plane over the forest) and went on a killing spree. The film stars the recently deceased Ray Liota, and Universal Pictures plans to release the film in theaters at the end of February.
The trailer proves that it really is an unusual story, after which many people put this black comedy on the list of must-see titles in 2023.
MAGIC MIKE LAST DANCE
On Valentine's Day, a new film by Steven Soderbergh ("S*x, Lies and Videotapes", "Contagion") arrives, which is the final part of the franchise focused on the world of male strippers.
It all started in 2012, and soon we are expecting the last sequel, in which Salma Hayek and Channing Tatum are entrusted with the main roles. It's a love story that begins when the stripper Mike runs out of money, after which he accepts an offer to travel to London with a rich woman (Hayek)...
The trailer promises a lot of memorable moments between the well-behaved actors.
Acclaimed American hit maker and master of suspense David Fincher will appear on Netflix with the upcoming noir thriller “The Killer”, starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton.
The author of the films "Gone Girl", "Mank", "The Social Network" and "Se7en" adapted the French comic by Alexis Nolent, bringing to life the brutal but elegant story of a professional killer lost in a world without a moral compass.
The main role was entrusted to Michael Fassbender, who will play the role of a lost man, who has also lost his mind.
DUNE, PART 2
After the sensational success of the first part of the film "Dune" directed by Denis Villeneuve ("Blade Runner 2049"), SF lovers are eagerly awaiting the second part.
"Dune" is one of the most famous (but also the most complex) stories in the history of the science fiction genre. The director decided to process Frank Herbert's extensive story from 1965 in two parts. The cast led by Timothée Chalamet is impressive, and the visuals are even better.
Along with the actors we saw in the first part, some new names will appear, and we will have to wait until November for the premiere of the film.
THE PALE BLUE EYE
Netflix began advertising one of its biggest film assets for 2023 months ago.
Christian Bale plays the main role in the film "The Pale Blue Eye", a costume drama set in 1830. The film is based on the novel of the same name by the American writer Louis Bayard and follows a detective who breaks his retirement to solve the mysterious case of a double murder at the West Point military academy.
There the detective meets the code of silence, but also Edgar Allan Poe, whose interest in the occult and the macabre will help the investigation in incredible ways. Bale and the crew are coming to Netflix already at the beginning of January.
The unusual film, which reveals the bizarre side of the disturbed world we live in, was partly shot in Šibenik. The story takes us to an isolated island where James and Em enjoy the perfect holiday on wild beaches, but when they meet the seductive Gabi, they find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism and unspeakable horror.
A tragic accident results in an unusual situation where some will be executed or, if they are wealthy enough to afford it, they can watch themselves die instead. The film will premiere at Sundance at the end of January, after which it will be released in theaters.
KNOCK ON THE CABIN
In 2023, horror fans can expect the latest film by M. Night Shyamalan, who became famous with the horror film "The Sixth Sense". This time, the director of Indian origin takes the audience into a terrifying world where people are put in front of an unusual challenge, to sacrifice themselves in order to save the world.
While vacationing in a remote cabin, a young girl and her parents are held hostage by four armed strangers, demanding that they go to their deaths to prevent the coming apocalypse. The film hits theaters on February 3.
