Golden Globe 2023: Steven Spielberg and House of the Dragon win!

The Golden Globe 2023 has reserved confirmations, surprises and disappointments. After the controversies of the previous editions addressed to the organizing association Hollywood Foreign Press Association, inclusive choices have been made this year.

To win, without particular twists, is Steven Spielberg, with his autobiographical film, The Fabelmans, which was awarded as best drama film and obtained the award for best director, in the Drama section. The Banshees of Inisherin, triumphed in the Best Comedy or Musical category.

The film directed by Martin McDonagh, awarded for best screenplay, tells the end of a lifelong friendship between two friends who have a pint in the pub every day. Recognition also came for its lead actor Colin Farrell with the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.

Michelle Yeoh was awarded Best Lead Actress in a Comedy or Musical, Ke Huy Quan, Best Supporting Actor. Both actors were cast in the Chinese sci-fi film Everything Everywhere All at Once. Austin Butler is the best actor drama thanks to the performance in the film Elivs and Cate Blanchett in Tör for best actress drama.

Eddie Murphy and Ryan Murphy received the Cecil B. DeMille Award and Carol Burnett Award for Lifetime Achievement Awards, respectively. For Marvel, Angela Bassett, won for the best supporting actress category in the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

There were really questionable choices here.

The most important awards were won by House of the Dragon, for best drama, and by Abbott Elementary, for best comedy. It blatantly (and probably unfairly) snubbed Better Call Saul and its leading man Bob Odenkirk.
