As tradition dictates, by the end of the year, lists of films that marked the past year are compiled, and the beginning of the new year brings lists of films that are expected to leave their mark in the year ahead. The power of dreams, Hollywood, which dictates the rules in the film industry and releases the largest number of titles annually, faced a significant setback last year.

Hollywood suffered a setback due to strikes by two leading unions, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), which lasted from May to November. This disruption has led to a situation reminiscent of the pandemic years when studios had to rearrange the release schedule of films in theaters, resulting in many titles originally planned for 2024 being pushed back to 2025.

However, one undeniable trend is the dominance of sequels among the featured films of 2024. Dune: The second part
Directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin and Stellan Skarsgård, "Dune: Part Two" is the long-awaited sequel to the first installment of Frank Herbert's sci-fi adaptation.

a novel. Originally planned for release at the end of the previous year, it was postponed to March 1, 2024, promising an even more spectacular and grandiose continuation of the saga of the Atreides family on the desert planet of Arrakis.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Directed by George Miller and starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones and Angus Sampson, "Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga" serves as a narrative continuation of the acclaimed "Mad Max: Fury Road" (2015).

George Miller, at the age of 78, returns to the director's chair to take audiences back to the wild ways and tell the story of a young Furiosa. The film is expected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Inside Out 2 Directed by Kelsey Mann and featuring the voices of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Bill Hader, Lewis Black and Mindy Kaling, "Inside Out 2" explores Riley's life as a teenager, introducing new emotions like anxiety.

This sequel, which arrives nine years after the original, promises to retain the brilliance and ingenuity of its predecessor. Deadpool 3 Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, "Deadpool 3" is Marvel's only release in 2024.

Serving as both a farewell to Reynolds' portrayal of the legendary superhero and Deadpool's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the film is expected to combine action, quality CGI and humor. Joker: Folie à Deux Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener, "Joker: Folie à Deux" is a unique sequel to the hugely successful "Joker" (2019).

Departing from the traditional superhero narrative, this installment takes the form of a musical and promises to delve deeper into the complex character of the Joker. Gladiator 2
Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Paul Mescal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi, Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal, "Gladiator 2" is the long-awaited sequel to the 2000 blockbuster.

Exploring the story of Lucius, Commodus' nephew, the film will introduce new characters played by Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal, while retaining the essence of the original. In 2024, audiences can expect a cinematic journey filled with sequels. And this year we were convinced that the biggest hits and blockbusters in Hollywood do not always have to go well.
