Last weekend, March 10, the world celebrated the International Day of Mary! During the ceremony, legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto personally took the stage to announce a treasure trove of exciting news for Mario fans.

Buckle up, because we're about to dive into the wonderful world of animation, remakes and remastered classics! First up, and sure to set hearts aflutter among Mario enthusiasts, is the announcement of a brand new animated Super Mario Bros.

movie! Following the massive success of Illumination Studios' 2023 (also responsible for mega hits like Despicable Me and Minions), this sequel promises to be even bigger and bolder. There may be a wait though – the film is due for release in April 2026.

But until then, you won't be bored because a lot of news about Super Mario has been confirmed. To hold us over until then, Miyamoto has confirmed the arrival of two long-awaited remakes this year. The critically acclaimed Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door gets a complete remaster, bringing its quirky charm and strategic turn-based combat to Nintendo Switch on May 23rd.

Then, for fans craving a spooky good time, Luigi's Mansion 2 is getting the HD treatment, also arriving on July 27 for Switch. Speaking of the Super Mario Bros. movie. from 2023, it still holds the crown as one of the most successful video game adaptations ever made.

Currently boasting a respectable 7.0 rating on IMDB, the film has not only won the hearts of audiences, but also launched the creation of Super Mario Wonder, a new mobile game that keeps fans on the go. In strong competition last year, this film made its way to the very top of the most watched films of the year which no one expected.
