There has been a lot of frustration among NASCAR fans over Ross Chastain's aggressive driving style. After a large number of incidents throughout the season, many people believe that Chastain should be fined for his actions.
There still seems to be no reaction from NASCAR, however. There were several people from the NASCAR scene who had the chance to comment on Chastain and his driving style, including Jeff Gordon, vice chairman of HMS. “It is a unique situation because of our ties with Chevrolet and key partners like the No.
1 car and Hendrick. We all work together as we do with Childress and Trackhouse. So it makes the dynamic very, very difficult because we’re all trying to share information and make the whole group better and stronger. And I think we are because of it,” -Jeff Gordon said.
Jeff Gordon on Ross Chastain
Gordon emphasized that Chastain needs to think very carefully about the approach he takes. Many drivers have already expressed their dissatisfaction countless times. He has a high chance of retaliating against him in the following races, and thus additional chaos will be generated as a result.
“That’s why we’re as competitive as we are, but when you get a competitor that is like Ross, putting it that far out on the edge, maybe taking it too far, that’s something he’s going to have to deal with because I think the other competitors are really taking notice,” -Gordon said.
Apparently, Chastain isn't taking the comments into consideration and doesn't want to make any changes to the way he does things. In Gordon's view, doing this will only result in him creating more enemies for himself in the future.
“You just can’t make that many enemies out there. I hate to see that, but I also know these guys are racing hard, trying to win, and the fans certainly got a show,”.
