Brandon Ingram gives injury update after Pelicans' Game 5 loss

New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram came to a press conference having two of his fingers taped in black athletic tape but insists he will be ready to play in Game 6 against the Phoenix Suns. On Tuesday night, the Suns earned a 112-97 home win to take a 3-2 lead over the Pelicans in their first round series.

Ingram led the way for the Pelicans as he scored 22 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists. "It's fine," Ingram said after arriving to press with two fingers taped, per ESPN. "It got a little banged up during the game, but I'll be all right."

Ingram thinks a proper treatment will ensure he's ready for Game 6. "[The fingers] got jammed. They're pretty sore right now," Ingram said. "But nothing that treatment can't fix and get better by next game."

CJ McCollum, who scored 22 points on 7-of-22 shooting, blamed poor start to the game for the Pelicans' loss. The Pelicans were down by 12 after the opening quarter and never recovered.

"Yeah, we gotta get off to better starts especially against this type of team, and they feed off the crowd," McCollum said. "They started making shots, going on runs and scoring in transition, but we got to do a better job.

But you knew was going to be a dogfight. We knew we were going to compete, and it is encouraging, you know, that to have a chance to kind of cut it to a two-possession or one-possession game, but it shouldn't come down to that.

We gotta get stops, we got to take care of the ball. Those are things that you can control." The Pelicans host the Suns in Game 6 on Thursday night. If the Pelicans win, Game 7 will be played on Saturday in Phoenix.
