Shaquille O'Neal hits out at Kevin Durant for requesting trade from Nets

Shaquille O'Neal thinks Kevin Durant should remain with the Brooklyn Nets and try to finish off what he has started in Brooklyn. In the summer of 2019, Durant and Kyrie Irving mutually agreed to join forces in Brooklyn.

In early 2021, the Nets added James Harden to their team. Three seasons have passed and Durant hasn't yet won a championship in Brooklyn. On June 30, Durant requested a trade from the Nets. Harden left the Nets prior to the trade deadline, while Irving has opted into the final year of his contract.

“When you put a house together, you should live in it,” O’Neal said on the Rich Eisen Show, per The New York Post “You were the one who hired the architect. You were the one who got the other architect from Philadelphia.

You, as a leader, should make it work, but you don’t want to make it work, I guess you go buy another house. You know he’s probably trying to get to a contender. It’s easier that way”.

O'Neal not a fan of Durant requesting a trade

A week ago, the Boston Celtics were named as one of the teams interested in acquiring Durant.

Per report, one of the players the Celtics offered in their initial offer for Durant was Jaylen Brown. The Celtics, who reached the NBA Finals this past season, have a young nucleus in the names of Brown, Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart.

O'Neal thinks the Celtics should keep their young nucles and try to build around them. “You have a young nucleus that you can build and you can trust; I would keep [Jaylen Brown],” O’Neal said. “I don’t know what everyone else was watching, but Jaylen was hanging pretty tough with Durant.

Looked like that to me”. More than a month has passed since Durant's trade request and some think Durant may actually change his mind and return to the Nets.
