Giannis Antetokounmpo gives best player in the world title to LeBron James

Giannis Antetokounmpo says he thinks LeBron James is still the one that deserves to be called as the best basketball player in the world. James, 37, missed some time last year due to injuries, but when he was on the court, he was playing on an MVP level.

Antetokounmpo acknowledged that what James is doing at his age is simply astonishing. “It’s interesting to me how LeBron is still [in] one of the best shapes [of] his life and being the best player in the world and still being in year 18,” Antetokounmpo told Marca Basket, via Lakers Daily.

“Like, that’s really interesting. I want to know how he does that. He’s been consistent for 18 years. He’s always there. He’s always showing up. That’s unbelievable. He obviously gets credit, but I think we’ve got to give him more credit.

Doing it for 18 years guys, that’s hard. And hopefully, hopefully I can be there. Hopefully, I can do this for 18 years, 20 years. That’s the goal”.

Antetokounmpo does not want to be called the best in the world

This summer, Antetokounmpo is with the Greek national team, hoping to lead them to victory at the upcoming EuroBasket.

Antetokounmpo is the absolute star on his team but he does not want to stand out or the whole focus to be on him. “You can’t adjust 11 people around me. I am not that type of guy. I have to adjust to everybody, I will do whatever my team needs, I will screen, I will play at 5 if I have to.

Right now our team is not ready to get a medal. But we have a chance. When the season started in Milwaukee, our goal wasn’t the championship. But we worked hard and we won. I am not the best player in the world. Don’t tell me that I am," Antetokounmpo said.
