Patrick Beverley is all excited about playing alongside LeBron James as he feels the Lakers have pieces that make them "a matchup problem for anybody." In the past, 34-year-old Beverley talked about his desire to one day be on the same team as James.
After getting traded to the Utah Jazz in the Rudy Gobert trade, Beverley changed his team for the second time offseason after the Los Angeles Lakers traded for him. "Who doesn't?" Beverley said, per ESPN. "You're talking about GOAT status, not only him, you're talking about GOAT status all the way across.
We're a matchup problem, we're a matchup problem for anybody. In order for us to be a matchup problem, we have to get to the playoffs, and playoffs are matchups, and we're a matchup problem for everybody, across the board, and we know that.
And our business is just getting to the playoffs, and we get to the playoffs, the guys who, all that polarizing figure, now you guys take us where we gotta go, that's the mindset."
Beverley hopes to help the Lakers get back on the right track
The Lakers went 33-49 last season and didn't even make the playoffs.
The Lakers have 17 NBA titles, but Beverley noted that the team has to be focused on the present and not on the past. Beverley admitted that it is special to play for the Lakers and added that it is time now for him and the rest of the team to go out and figure out how to get the job done this season.
"I just feel like they didn't make the playoffs last year," Beverley said when asked about signing with the 17-time NBA champions. "We're being honest, that's just the truth, so you can see all the banners, but you know, it's what have you done for me lately? And lately, [the Lakers] haven't been a good team." It remains to be seen if Beverley can win his first NBA title this season with the Lakers.
