'Smooth criminal' DeMar DeRozan burries Atlanta Hawks, extends historic streak

Chicago Bulls star guard DeMar DeRozan continued his outstanding form on Thursday night as he dropped a game-high 37 points to lead the Bulls to a 112-108 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The Bulls were down by three within the final minute of the game but then DeRozan hit a midrange jumper to cut down the lead to one.

After the Bulls made a stop on the next possession, DeRozan made another jumped, followed by an and-1 to give the Bulls the lead with 15 seconds remaining. DeRozan scored 12 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter. Also, DeRozan scored five points inside the final minute of the game.

"Too much DeRozan," Hawks coach Nate McMillan said after the game, per ESPN.

DeRozan making history

DeRozan now has eight consecutive games with at least 35 points and he is the seventh player in NBA history to do so. "Smooth criminal," Bulls center Tristan Thompson, who scored 11 points with six rebounds in his team debut, said about DeRozan.

"That basket is looking the size of Lake Michigan right now for him." Bulls rookie Ayo Dosunmu, who made one of the key defensive stops in the final minute, was in awe of DeRozan's performance. "It's history. We're witnessing history," Dosunmu said.

"What we are witnessing right now is something people are going to remember for a long time." Dosunmu is happy to have a chance to play alongside a player like DeRozan. "He wants to win, he makes the right play at all times," Dosunmu said.

"One thing I like about DeMar, he knows when it's time to be selfish a little bit and we need a basket. He always delivers for us." DeRozan has been money in clutch moments throughout the entire season. "When you're in those moments you gotta take it on," DeRozan said.

"I love the moments. I love the challenge. I love opportunity. It's fun to me."
