Legendary NFL cornerback Charles Woodson called Davante Adams a "special player" as he is happy to see the wideout signing with the Las Vegas Raiders. Woodson, who was taken at No. 4 by the Raiders in the 1998 NFL draft, is one of the greatest to suit up in a Silver and Black.
Adams, who grew up as a Raider fan, is now officially a part of the Raiders family as he inked a five-year, $142.5 million deal with the Raiders. "The thing that makes him a special player is he's really a guy that knows how to get separation," Woodson told ESPN.
"The most important thing between being a good and great receiver is about that separation. And more times than not, he's going to be open."
Adams grew up idolizing Woodson
As a kid, Adams was wearing a Woodson jersey and hoping he would one day be a star in the NFL.
20 years later, Adams is one of the best in the game and Woodson called him a "special player." "It is a dream to be a Raider, man," Adams said. "It's a dream come true. In a third-grade yearbook, I said I wanted to be a, you know, an NFL star or an NBA star.
And I was wearing a Charles Woodson jersey at the time. So, it's been documented forever, so I guess you can say it was meant to be." The Green Bay Packers reportedly offered Adams more money than the Raiders but the wide receiver wanted to fulfill his childhood dream of playing for the Raiders.
"Everybody's saying, 'Congrats on being on the Raiders,'" he laughed. "It hasn't been, 'Congrats on 140 million dollars.' It's been, 'Congrats, you get to play for a team you grew up loving.' " Adams said. Adams reunited in Las Vegas with Derek Carr, with whom he played college ball at Fresno State.
