Derek Carr was absolutely thrilled after signing a multiyear extension with the Las Vegas Raiders as he has reiterated his desire to finish his career with the Raiders. On Wednesday, Carr and the Raiders agreed on a three-year, $121.5 million extension with the Raiders.
The extension will keep Carr with the Raiders through the 2025 season. Long-term Raiders head coach Jon Gruden resigned midway through the last season, while general manager Mike Mayock was fired after the season ended.
The Raiders brought in a new regime as Josh McDaniels is the new Raiders head coach and Dave Ziegler the new general manager. Carr was grateful to McDaniels and Ziegler for showing the belief in him. "But the fact that they keep believing in me and watching the tape and saying, 'Wow, we want you to be here for some more years or some more time,' that means more to me, way more to me than any of the other stuff it has to do with," Carr said, per ESPN.
"It was very clear to me how they felt about me from day one."
The Raiders happy to secure Carr long-term
The Raiders have made some big moves this free agency and their expectations will be big after signing All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams.
The Raiders believe Carr is the guy who can help them reach their goals. "Derek Carr has been the leader of this franchise for a long time and we are thrilled to continue that relationship moving forward," Raiders head coach McDaniels said in a statement released by the team.
"He has been a great example of someone who always puts the team first and we appreciate his desire to keep doing that while leading on and off the field. It is clear how much Derek cares about this organization, his teammates and winning. I look forward to the opportunity to work with him this season and beyond."
