NFL owner willing to give 'misunderstood' Colin Kaepernick chance

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis has revealed he would be open to giving Colin Kaepernick a chance if the team's front office and coaching staff expressed a desire to bring him in. Kaepernick hasn't played a snap in the NFL since the 2016 season but he hasn't given up on his hopes of returning to the NFL.

The Raiders don't have a problem at the quarterback position as this offseason they signed Derek Carr to a multiyear extension. Besides Carr, the Raiders also have Nick Mullens and Garrett Gilbert in the quarterback room.

“Listen, I believe in Colin Kaepernick, and he deserves every chance in the world to become a quarterback in the National Football League,” Davis told host Monte Poole on the latest episode of NBC Sports’ Race in America: A Candid Conversation.

“I still stand by it. If our coaches and general manager want to bring him in or want him to be the quarterback on this team, I would welcome him with open arms”.

Davis: Kaepernick is a very misunderstood human being

Kaepernick's hasn't had an NFL tryout since 2017.

The Seattle Seahawks were reportedly glad with what Kaepernick showed during his tryout but still didn't sign him. “I think Colin is a very misunderstood human being,” Davis said. “I’ve gotten a chance to talk to him.

I never really knew Colin, and I didn’t understand him. I didn’t understand the kneeling, what that meant initially. Over time, I have learned a little bit more about it. I understand where he was coming from. He’s got a message for society as a whole”.

When asked why he is still attempting to return to the NFL, Kaepernick cited his desire to win a Super Bowl. “It’s a passion,” Kaepernick said. “Like, you had those dreams from when you were a kid. I mean, like, I’m gonna be an NFL player, and I’m gonna win a Super Bowl.

And for me, I have unfinished business on that front. I’ve been to the Super Bowl. We were one play away. I need to finish that”.
