Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Malik Willis says he is absolutely all good with Ryan Tannehill and there is no anymosity or anything like that between them. After Willis was taken in the third round of this past NFL draft by the Titans, Tannehill was asked if he would be willing to mentor Willis.
Tannehill said it wasn't his job to mentor Willis and that drew lots of negative reaction as several former and current players called out Tannehill for that attitude. "I don't think it's my job to mentor him," Tannehill said.
"But if he learns from me along the way, that's a great thing."
Willis: Tannehill is willing to help
When Willis was asked about Tannehill's comments on Friday, he insisted Tannehill never meant anything negative. Also, Willis said he went to Tannehill's house the other day and received some tips from the veteran quarterback.
"It was never anything negative," Willis said. "Ryan's a good dude. Everything is cool. He had us over [to] the house the other day and gave us a little bit of game regarding what comes with this process." Titans head coach Mike Vrabel also suggested it's all good between Tannehill and Willis.
"I thought Ryan handled that very well," Vrabel said. "He was genuine, he was authentic. Everybody here knows he's a great teammate. That (mentoring) is not his job. His job is to prepare to help us win a bunch of games and be a great teammate and help out.
That was not any sort of an issue for me." Tannehill had a disappointing in the divisional round versus the Cincinnati Bengals as his three interceptions turned out to be costly. Earlier this month, Tannehill admitted he was in a dark place after the playoff exited and he needed a therapy to improve his mental health and well-being.
