Saints HC Dennis Allen provides latest in Michael Thomas recovery

New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen has confirmed the team expects Michael Thomas to be ready for training camp. Last June, Thomas underwent an ankle surgery. Thomas then suffered a setback in his recovery and he required a follow-up procedure in November.

Thomas missed the entire 2021 season and he is not present at the start of spring training. "I think he's doing well in his rehab. He's not ready yet. But he's here, he's rehabbing, he's getting himself better. And we're certainly anxious to get him out here," Allen said, per ESPN.

"I know that he's working his tail off to get himself back. And we feel good about where he's at right now."

Allen: We hope Thomas is ready for training camp

When asked directly whether Thomas would be ready for training camp, Allen said yes.

"That's certainly our plan," Allen said. "If I had a crystal ball and could tell you all these things, I'd probably be making a lot more money and doing something different. But, yeah, our hope is that he's gonna be ready to go for training camp.

So that's what we're pushing for." Also, Allen confirmed quaterback Jameis Winston is doing a good progress from his torn ACL and MCL injury. "We've still got a ways to go to get him ready," Allen said of Winston. "I think he's looked good.

... We like the progress he's making, we like where he's at. And hopefully that will continue." Winston is ahead of his recovery schedule but Allen is not surprised. "Look, with the way that he works and how hard he works, it doesn't surprise me," Allen said.

"I think we've got to continue to be smart with that, which I think we are. We'll continue to push to get him better, but yet try to be smart about it."
