Myles Garrett comments on inevitable Browns - Baker Mayfield split

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett says he wishes Baker Mayfield all the best and hopes the quarterback lands on his feet again. After leading the Browns to a playoff appearance and playoff victory in 2020, Mayfield didn't impress last season and the Browns missed out on the playoffs.

The Browns weren't happy with Mayfield's performances in 2021 so this offseason they made a strong push for Deshaun Watson. Watson decided to sign with the Browns but the Browns haven't yet been able to find a trade partner for Mayfield.

Mayfield has a $19 million fully guaranteed salary for 2022 and teams don't want to pay him that much. Garrett and Mayfield played four years together. "People come and go, and this is one of those changes," Garrett said of Mayfield, per ESPN.

"I hope the best for him. I hope he moves on and he does well for himself. He's played well when he's healthy. When he's healthy, he can do some pretty good things for a team. Just has to find his niche again. I think he has to prove himself, has to get healthy."

Mayfield penned a goodbye to Cleveland in March but three months later he is still a member of the team.

The Browns can't get a trade partner for Mayfield and they also don't want to simply cut. When Mayfield was asked about the Browns' handling of the situation, he called it disrespectful. "I feel disrespected," Mayfield said.

"A hundred percent. Because I was told one thing, and they completely did another. That's what I'm in the middle of right now. I'm just looking for stabilization right now." Reportedly, there are teams interested in adding Mayfield - but they don't want to him with his $19 million salary for 2022.
